Guillermo Pineda-Villavicencio

I am an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Mathematics at the School of Information Technology at Deakin University, Australia.

My teaching experience and expertise are broad, encompassing courses from discrete mathematics and statistics to analysis and optimisation. In 2021, I became Fellow (FHEA) of AdvanceHE, and in 2016, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Education (Tertiary Teaching) at Federation University Australia.

My research interests lie in the interplay between graph theory and discrete geometry, particularly in the combinatorics of graphs of convex polytopes. Additionally, I work on the construction and analysis of large networks and on applications of mathematics to health informatics. Details of my past and current projects are documented in my publications and talks.

Since July 2025, I have served as an Associate Editor of the Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society. Since 2022, I have also been Deakin’s correspondent for the Gazette of the Australian Mathematical Society. From January 2023 to May 2024, I was member of the Editorial Board of PLOS One, and from October 2019 to August 2020, I served as co-managing editor of Ars Combinatoria. In addition, between 2020 and February 2025, I was a member of the Human Ethics Advisory Group in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment at Deakin, assessing Ethics Low Risk applications.

I am the author of a book titled Polytopes and Graphs, which is published in the Cambridge Studies in Advanced Mathematics. Be sure to check it out.
